I Dream of Rice Dream

Just wanted to give a shout out to my dinner.
For the past couple days
I've really been fighting
the urge to cheat, especially today
(Aunt Flow came to town).
So instead, I treated myself
to some of my favorite vegan food.

After scrubbing the shower walls
and running errands,
I was too beat to make dinner.
So I stopped by Chipotle.
Big fat burritos are one of my
favorite meals of all time.
So satisfying.
I love their veggie burrito.
All the toppings are delicious!

I've been incredibly tempted
to make a nacho run today.
At Chipotle they make the best chips.
Crispy and sprinkled
with about three layers of salt.
Perfect!
Thank you Chipotle,
that was just what I needed.

I haven't had dessert in such a long time.
I'm trying to get on the Macrobiotics Diet.
They don't eat much flour and sugar, those macros.
I made couscous cake this week for "dessert" and to snack on.
Yes you read that right, couscous cake.
It's good...yeah....
Covered with dried fruit and apple juice.
Those macros, man.
It really is delicious, my daughters love it,
but it's not something I could feast on.
Sometimes it's hard for me to consider
anything that is not covered in chocolate, good.

So tonight I treated myself to a Rice Dream.
You all have homework:
go to your local health food store
and pick up a Rice Dream Ice Cream Bar.
You'll be able to give up ice cream after you have one of these.
I had the Vanilla Nutty Bar,
which is dipped in chocolate and covered in nuts.
But I also love their Moca Pie,
which is a cookie ice cream sandwich dipped in chocolate.
I especially love these because they use barley malt instead of sugar,
so they don't spike up my sugar levels.

Tonight I'm watching 27 Dresses for the zillionth time.
I love this movie because Kevin reminds me so much of Daniel,
always goofing around and not taking much of anything seriously.
And he's always aggravating Katherine Heigl's character.
Daniel walks a fine line between making me down right crazy and making me laugh.
Plus, I love this actor.
I mean, how great are his lips?
Remember when he was in X-Men
and he wore those glasses so we never saw his eyes?
We could only see his lips, which really, are all we needed to see.

I sound like someone who needs to get out more.
Have a great weekend everyone!

New York

A couple months back,
we took a quick trip without the girls
to New York City for a family wedding.
Now when I say "quick trip"
I'm talking two and a half days.
Yeah.
No point in trying to sight see.
Since we both had already been there
we had two priorities:
 good food and art.

Here are some things we shoved
into our very limited time.
New York I love you!

New York Trip

We landed after midnight.
Everything was closed and we were starving
after all that traveling on foodless airplanes.
The next morning we woke up famished!
and we loved it so much, we went back a couple days later!

I had the vegan quiche which is layers
of incredibly delicious veggies on buckwheat crust,
and my breakfast came with a dark green huge salad!
It was so nourishing after not eating for so long.
Daniel's favorite was a plate of two hard boiled eggs with fresh baked bread.
We also had a chia seed muffin which I'm dying to make a home.

We need to get back to this place.
Last time we were in Old Town Pasadena we saw one there.
We'll be finding a way to get there soon!

I love running into my friends in the city.
St. Francis looking lovely in the neighborhood.

I really wanted to see Atlas.
He made a huge impression on me in
a movie where Gregory Peck takes on the Anti-Seminists.
Sigh, we love Gregory Peck.

Daniel totally confused in Grand Central Station.
This is his "Thinking Really Really Hard" face.

Central Park is empty when it rains!
I've been in love with Central Park since elementary school
when I read about it in my history books,
and then in It's Like this Cat.

The Natural History Museum is free after 4:00.
Love that.

Alright enough of that,
down to business.
Did you know that the best donut ever is
baked, dairy and sugar-free!
No, no, there is nothing better than this.

Okay wait,
the cinnamon roll.
It can get better!
My mouth is watering....

Little Italy.
On our way to a local craft fair.

Candle 79 is a must when in NYC.
I blogged about it before.

The MOMA.
I've always loved this picture!
I was kind of nerd status excited to see it.

Modern Art rocks!

Then we went back home, and it was like we never left.
It was so great to see our little girls!

Date Night

I am a firm believer that high schoolers and single people are not the only ones who should be allowed to enjoy regular date night. Married couples need a date night too! Especially if you have kids or buns in the oven. Here is what we did last night:

Last week we bought some tickets on Fandango. They were having a special, two tickets for $9!! Couldn't pass it up.
We went to an early showing since I wanted to go to bed early for our early wake up call. Thank goodness we did, our toddler woke up at 5:45 this morning!

We saw Midnight in Paris. I've never been interested enough to make it through a Woody Allen movie, but this is seriously my new favorite movie. I love: literature, the Roaring Twenties, art and ragtime and this movie has all of it! If you love the thought of enjoying all those perviously mentioned in Paris, Go See It!

Afterward we went to an outdoor mall for dinner and as we were walking we saw....

Michael Costello from Project Runway! He was two feet in front of me. I don't usually get star stuck, but I was so taken by surprise that I suddenly felt waves of hot flashes and like I was going to collapse on the ground. It wasn't until my husband jerked me forward did I realize that I was standing there gawking like an idiot.

Afterward, we went to The Yard House since we had a gift certificate from my parents. The Yard House  now offers Gardein! Gardein is awesome! Made with whole grains, it has the meat texture and tastes just like meat! I wish I had this stuff when I was trying to get off meat.  I eat it whenever I'm having a mad craving.

Not the best picture 'cause it's taken with our camera phone. I had Gardein beef sliders and Gardein bbq chicken salad. So yummy! Not everything is 100% vegan, but it's great for anyone trying to cut down on meat.

I paired it with a glass of Riesling. Best glass of wine I've had in a long time. Next In House Date Night we have, we are going to buy a bottle.

Hope you all make time to get out and enjoy your significant other!
